Douglas Johns Trophy

The Douglas Johns Trophy was hosted by Harewood Downs and a full field of 60 players took part. The National event attracts some of the best Under 15 boys in the Country and competitors travelled from as far away as Dubai. The weather was extremely hot and the course was in fantastic shape. In the morning round Henry Hayward (Kedleston Park) fired an impressive 66 (-3) which gave him a lead of four strokes over Hugh Adams (Hagley Golf & Country Club). There were several players one stroke back after scores of 71 promising an exciting afternoon's golf.

The temperature increased but this didn't seem to affect most of the players as the overall scoring improved and 7 players managed under par rounds in the afternoon. The first round leader, Henry Hayward, added a 71 to his morning round of 66 to give him a two round total of 137 (-1). This was good enough to see him crowned Douglas Johns Champion and he follows in the footsteps of some famous previous winners including Justin Rose. Just a stroke behind, and adding an afternoon round of 67 to his morning round of 71 giving him a total of 138 was Ryan Georgiou (Pinner Hill). In third and a further shot back on 139 was Jake Sowden (The Oaks). The players were very complimentary about Harewood Downs and our thanks must go to everybody at the club for hosting the event. The standard of golf on display was excellent and we wish all competitors the best of luck as they progress through their golfing careers.
